Soyster Taylor Design, P.C. is an architectural firm whose practice is devoted to the design of custom residential projects.  We specialize in homes that are tailored to the individual tastes, lifestyles, and budgets of each client, developed during many focused face-to-face meetings.  Our designs are unique at each instance, not standard “off-the-shelf” plans.  The common thread of our design philosophy revolves around the theme of quality design rather than relying upon any particular design idiom.

Our design partnership, a team made up of the two Principals of the firm, Tom Soyster and Tom Taylor, along with our clients, whom we consider the third equal contributor in our collaboration, has produced award-winning residential projects over a wide and diverse geographical range.  These include homes in Florida, Michigan, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Washington State. All meetings are planned with the clients at their convenience wherever they presently live or where their new homes are planned.

We are proud that over 90% of Soyster Taylor Design’s work has been referred by past friends/clients, or is work for clients who have built multiple homes and have asked us to be their architects several times.  One of our frequently utilized strengths is the design of either permanent or vacation homes whose siting challenges have been turned into opportunities to take advantage of dramatic views or vistas.  The scope of our work for these projects has included everything from complete architectural services to full service interiors, including curatorial assistance in the acquisition of fine furnishings and artwork.

Most recently the firm has won three awards including “Best Custom Home 8,000 -10,000 S.F.” and the “Grand Award for Best Custom Home Overall” from the Home Builders Association of Connecticut. Additionally we are proud that one of our lakefront homes on Lake Michigan was featured as the cover article in the Fall 2000 Anniversary Issue of  “Chicago Home & Garden” magazine.
